The OOP Journal is Born
Ahhhh hi, I am so glad you're here - meet my newborn, the OOP Journal!
A laptop is a girl’s best friend
If you’ve ever felt like staying in one place for too long just isn’t in your DNA, we might already be best friends. In all seriousness, if you know me, you know I can’t sit still—both literally and figuratively.
Over the past few years, my partially remote tech jobs in NYC have turned my lifelong dream of constant travel into reality.
Thirty trips in three years—yes, I know, completely unhinged. But that number isn’t a flex; it’s just my insatiable craving for new experiences. (And, let’s be real, my inability to say no to a cheap flight.)
Whether I’m stumbling through a Pilates class where I don’t understand a word of the instructor’s language, or managing a high-stakes Zoom meeting from a bungalow in Indonesia, infested with monkeys (yes, a story for another time), For employment-related reasons, this is a joke :)—I’m always on the move.
I live for the places that stop me mid-step, making me think, Wait… why is no one talking about this? Or honestly, How do I move here immediately?
Down the Travel Rabbit Hole
If you've ever spiraled down a Google black hole searching for the perfect travel recs, only to emerge more overwhelmed than inspired—same. That’s exactly why I started Out of Pocket: to share not just my go-to spots, but the raw, chaotic, and unexpectedly magical moments that make travel unforgettable.
This is a space for hotel gems—not always the priciest, but definitely the most charming—hole-in-the-wall finds, and plenty of unfiltered truths.
The Philosophy of "Out of Pocket"
This is where I’ll be sharing my favorite corners of the world—places that deserve a little more love.
Think of it as your cool friend’s travel notes, minus the “I’ll send you the link later” promise that never happens.
OOP is a glimpse into how my travel brain operates (researching nonstop). The stays, the eats, the experiences that actually stand out—along with the truths that come with them. Because let’s be real, not every destination is perfect, and not every hyped-up meal is worth your time.
After years of friends asking for recs—and just as many hours lost in my own travel research—I wanted a space that’s fun to read, refreshingly honest, and that embraces travel beyond the highlight reel (don’t worry, I’m all here for a good travel photo).
And with that, I give you our new little shared space for all things travel + experiences.
I’m really excited, slightly over-caffeinated, and definitely winging it—but hey, that’s kind of the fun of it, right?
A very warm and official welcome to the Out of Pocket Journal. :)
Xx,
Sophie
